Herb Sevel lived all his life in San Ysidro. His father was originally from Latvia and escaped anti-semitism with his family by moving to South Africa. At the age of 16, Harry left on a ship to America. He arrived in New York and made his way to California where he established a gas station in San Ysidro during the 1920’s. He had two sons, including Herb who took over the gas station and towing service. His wife, Evelyn, still owns the business, which still exists on San Ysidro Boulevard today.
